SCRAWL: ARTWORK FROM THE STREETS

Scrawl was created to highlight graffiti as an artform, and to archive this form of urban expression while showcasing the capabilities of the Streetprint Engine.

One of the unique features of Scrawl is the ability to search and browse the collected photos by a variety of different methods — a feature which is sorely lacking from even the most comprehensive graffiti sites on the web.

Contributions
Contributions are welcome whether you are an artist, photographer or just someone who appreciates graffiti. A medium resolution digital image along with as much information as possible is requested. More questions? E-mail Moki.

DIGITIZATION PROCEDURES

Photos were captured in a variety of ways. The works from New York, Toronto, Bologna and London were shot with a Nikon Coolpix 995. Later works (as of April 1st, 2004) were capture with a Canon Powershot G5.

These digital images were organzied, catalogued, notated and archived using Apple’s iPhoto. Manipulation and web preparation was done with Adobe Photoshop 7.0.

Photo collages were created using either Adobe Photoshop 7.0 or Canon PhotoStitch. Quicktime VRs were created by taking collages exporting using Canon PhotoStitch.

Other images were captured with a variety of film SLR cameras. Prints were scanned on an Epson 1250U Flatbed Scanner, and slides or negatives were captured with a Canoscan FS2710 Slide Scanner. These digital versions were then colour-corrected, treated and prepared for web with Adobe Photoshop 7.0
